Residenze, servizi e negozi, a parità di superficie con la preesistente sede Montedison: tra le soluzioni “a sviluppo verticale”, la committenza ha scelto quella che meglio esprimeva la dialettica tra contemporaneità e tradizione dell’abitare a Milano. Il corpo proposto si articola in altezza con grandi scanalature, ad accentuare e slanciare la sagoma dell’edificio, concepito come interpolazione - una sorta di morphing - tra la variegata sezione della Torre Velasca e le fenditure verticali del grattacielo Pirelli: il risultato è una figura scultorea in grado di rompere l’aspetto monolitico della cortina edilizia precedente, individuando un landmark e una nuova perimetrazione degli spazi a terra e di promuovere un diverso uso della strada che si addentra nel lotto, attraverso una piccola piazza.

I tetti di due delle quattro torri che compongono il fabbricato, citano la tradizione dei giardini pensili milanesi, mentre gli spazi inter-esterni degli alloggi, sono caratterizzati da un sistema continuo di logge; una “doppia pelle” che scherma le facciate, garantendo anche un considerevole risparmio energetico. Ad arricchire il programma costruttivo, un avanzato sistema di controllo e di gestione illuminotecnica, dalla fotocellula crepuscolare al software che regola i cromatismi dei prospetti in relazione alle variazioni stagionali della luce; un significativo “plusvalore” è dato dalla collaborazione con artisti, architetti, fotografi e designer contemporanei.

Dwellings, service sector activities and shops, occupying the same are as the existing Montedison headquarters: among the solutions featuring a “vertical development” the client has chosen the one that vaunted the best interpretation of the dialectic between contemporary style and the Milanese housing tradition. The proposed structure stretches upwards with large furrows that accentuate the contours of the building, making it appear slender; the construction is conceived as an interpolation – a kind of morphing – between the variegated section of the Velasca Tower and the vertical fissures of the Pirelli skyscraper: the result is a sculptural figure that breaks with the monolithic appearance of the previous continuous facades of the building, becoming a landmark and identifying a new way to build the perimeter of the ground floor and suggest a new way to use the street, that enters the lot through a small square.
The roofs of two of the four towers the building is formed of quote the tradition of Milanese hanging gardens, while the interior-exterior spaces of the dwellings are characterized by a continuous system of loggias: a “double skin” that screens the facades, also allowing a considerable energy saving. The project is enhanced by an advanced system of control and regulation of the illumination, with a crepuscular photocell that adapts the chromatic shades of the facades, adapting them to the seasonal changes of the light. Another significant added value is represented by the collaboration with contemporary artists, architects, photographs and designers.
